About the Project
I created this project for a class in the School of Media and Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The class, MEJO 121: Introduction to Digital Storytelling, focused on telling stories through videography, web design and multimedia. At the beginning of the semester, we chose a project topic and then learned new digital storytelling skills through exploration of our topic.
I chose Dawn Melrose Pottery because ceramic art is very visual, and I thought it would translate well to the visual projects we would do throughout the semester. Additionally, Dawn Melrose is my mother, so I already knew her story, and I also had a basic understanding of pottery before beginning the project.
About Me
My name is Allison Melrose, and I am currently a sophomore at UNC-Chapel Hill. I am pursuing a degree in public relations at the UNC School of Media and Journalism with a minor in cognitive science. I am making my way through both of these courses of study, learning a lot, and exploring the world along the way. In the future, I hope to combine my two favorite things, listening to music and telling stories, by either working with a PR music agency or working as a publicist at a music label.
Information for this project came from interviews with Dawn Melrose and from consultation of ceramic textbook “The Art and Craft of Clay: A Complete Potter’s Handbook” by Jan and Susan Peterson.
